The wording on a wedding card does two jobs at once. It gives guests the facts — who, when, where — and it tells them what kind of wedding this is: ritual-led and formal, or relaxed and written by the couple themselves. Below are samples you can copy and adapt, starting with how a traditional Indian card is put together.
The parts of an Indian wedding invitation
Most Indian wedding cards follow the same order, even when the language changes.
| Part | What it says | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Invocation | A blessing or deity at the top | || Shree Ganeshay Namah || |
| Hosts | Who is inviting | Mrs. & Mr. Rakesh Sharma |
| Request | The invitation itself | request the pleasure of your company |
| Couple | Bride and groom, often with parents | Ananya with Arjun |
| When | Day, date and muhurat time | Saturday, 21st November 2026, 7:30 pm |
| Where | Venue and city | The Leela Palace, Udaipur |
| Closing | Welcome, blessings or RSVP | Your blessings are our greatest gift |
A digital card is the shape of a phone screen, so keep it to about eight lines. Longer family lists, the full function schedule and a map link read better in the WhatsApp message you send with the card.

Wording for the other functions
Each function usually gets its own card, with a lighter voice than the wedding card:
- Haldi: “Haldi — A celebration of love, laughter & turmeric … Come dressed in shades of yellow.” More samples on the haldi invitation page.
- Mehendi: “Mehendi — Ceremony of Neha & Aman … Music, mehendi & merriment await.” See mehendi invitations.
- Sangeet: “Sangeet — Ceremony of Kavya & Rishabh … An evening of music, dance & celebration.” See sangeet invitations.
- Reception: “Reception — In honour of the newlyweds … Dinner & dancing to follow.” See reception invitations.
- Engagement: “We’re getting engaged! Maya and Dev would love you to join us for our ring ceremony.” See engagement invitations.
Tips before you send
- Check every name with an elder. Spellings, initials and titles (Dr., Late) are the most common corrections after cards go out.
- Write the day as well as the date. “Saturday, 21st November 2026” prevents mix-ups across a week of functions.
- Give the muhurat or arrival time, not a vague “evening”.
- Keep the map link off the card. Text inside an image can’t be tapped — paste the Google Maps link into your message instead.
- Match the wording to the design. A formal Hindi invocation sits naturally on Maroon Mandala; a couple’s-voice line suits Ivory Luxe.
Every line on a ShaadiCardWala card is editable, in English, Hindi or any other language — pick a wedding invitation design and paste in the wording that sounds like your family.
